paragraphs which tells about the history of name of Jakarta !
As one of the major cities as well as the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta has
a long history. So even with the name change of name of Jakarta is experiencing
several times. Jakarta was originally known as Sunda Kelapa (Kalapa) which is
one of the ports belong to the Hindu kingdom called Sunda city in which
thousands Pakuan Padjadjaran (Bogor). In the 12th century, the port was known
as a busy port pepper. Foreign ships coming from China, Japan, South India, and
the Middle East has been docked at the port carrying the goods like porcelain,
coffee, silk, linen, perfume, horses, wine, and dye in exchange for spices is a
commercial commodity that time. In 1527 the town rename Fatahilah be Jayakarta
(city of victory) after winning the attack and occupied the port of Sunda
Kelapa.
Batavia name used from about 1621 until 1942. Batavia
name comes from the word Batavieren, one tribal name in Dutch or German tribes
who settled on the banks of the Rhine which is now occupied by the Dutch.
During the Japanese occupation (1942-1945), the name changed again to Jakarta. 1961 (based on PP No. 2
tahun 1961 jo. UU No. 2 PNPS 1961) established Pemerintah Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta. Dated August 31, 1964,
officially in UU No.10 of 1964 declared as Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta Raya. Jakarta with the name. Later
changed to Pemerintah Provinsi DKI Jakarta (based
on UU no. 34 tahun 1999) with the distribution of 5
municipalities and one district administrative seribu islands.
